Description

The Trans Indian Ocean Sumatran Tsunami and following natural disasters in Indonesia expressed the global vulnerability and urgent need for early warning. The disasters changed practises on how to proceed forward with hazard risk reduction, preparedness and development.

With support from other countries, Indonesia is launching the Indonesian Tsunami Early Warning System (Ina-TEWS) in order to protect both communities and development in the coastal regions.

Theme and topics:
The international conference for tsunami warning (ICTW) will focus on (but not limited to):
- seismic monitoring
- sea-level monitoring
- database, modelling and simulation
- information, communication and warning dissemination
- community preparedness and mitigation.
